Book 12: The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
This was a honking book at over 800 pages, but it was the last book in a trilogy that I had started last year and it was a fitting end to the trilogy. This is definitely one of those trilogies that you have to read the first 2 books in order to understand what it going on, you won't really figure it out from this book. Reason I'm saying that is that with some trilogies you can just pick up the 3rd book and figure out what was going on with the rest. This one you don't get the full picture unless you read all three books.
It is set during Queen Victoria's rein in England, but it isn't the stuffy style of writing from that time period. You do get the snootiness of the girls and the oppression of that timeframe, but it really is about finding oneself and believing in yourself and that one one has the right to control you. I would recommend the trilogy. They are pretty fast reads with nicely spaced stopping points and chapter markers.
It was a fitting end to the trilogy, with most--if not all--the loose ends tied up, but the author did leave it open ended in case she felt like doing another one or going on a different path with the same characters.
