Fall days
Yesterday my family went up to Park City and spent the afternoon there. It was really nice to be able to go up the canyon and see all the fall colors and then spend the day getting some stuff for the Hubby and just having a nice outing. We only took a couple of pictures. My mom gets kind of upset that we don't take a lot of pictures anymore, but I don't mind being behind the camera, I just don't like to be in front of it. But we got a good one of all the family. I'll see if I can download it from the card and put it up here.
Anyway, I'm happy with the cooler weather the past few days. It makes it nice to be outside, but work still has the AC on, so I freeze all day. That isn't fun.
Fall, here it comes.

Affirmation
So after rifling through some music I had on my hard drive I found my Savage Garden stuff. I've been looking for that for ages. It is now on my MP3 player. Savage Garden has this song called "Affirmation" and I really like the lyrics. I even agree with most of the lyrics. Take a look:
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I really like some of that stuff. If you take a look, it really is like that.
But getting to another topic, I guess with some of the stuff that has been happening lately with my life, I've started having these questions as to why people do the things they do. Human nature is just too strange. Why do people feel the need to dance around a subject instead of just getting to the heart of the matter? Why do people feel the need to sugarcoat things just to make sure they don't step on other people's toes? Why do some tell you what they think of you behind your back but would never say that to your face? I understand that gossipers gossip to make themselves feel more important, but why is there a need to gossip in the first place? Some say the truth hurts, but if it is the truth, why should it hurt?
Those who know me know that I am a no-nonsense type of person. If it needs to be said, I'll say it. If it needs to be done and everyone else is just talking about it, I'll go and do it. I do not like backhanded dealings, nor do I like people talking about me behind my back. If you've got something to say, please say it. I believe I am adult enough to talk with you and have a discussion where we don't see eye-to-eye, yet not let things get to the point that it destroys any relationship that we have. I do see now that the attitude that people had in high school doesn't seem to go away. Working with high schoolers on a daily basis has just put another tick on that tally board. For many people, something happens in their life that allows them to grow up and see what is going on. I wish something like that could happen to everyone. No, I'm not wishing for something bad for everyone, I'm just wishing for an eye-opening experience for them.

Buddha pears?
So I just received this in my e-mail and I thought it was cool. Who knew that you could shape fruit while it was still on the vine.

Stuffy Head
Arg, so my cold has gotten worse, but I've still got to try and teach. They don't give teachers enough substitute days in case they get sick and I'm trying to make sure I have enough for all the different training days that I have to go to and ask for a substitute.
But a low grade fever and a headache aren't helping me be what I need to be here while teaching, but when I get home, man do I crash!
But congrats to Beth and Thomas on the birth of their little girl! Yay! I'm excited for you 2!
Nothing new on the news front here. Jakob and I are trying to finalize a few things. He's still in school and we decided to push back his student teaching for a semester just in case what we're planning goes through. We're also saving up for a trip that we want to take, so that has been interesting planning for all that. I'm still looking around for teaching jobs for next year in case this one doesn't pan out. But we're at least healthy (except for my cold) and we've food and a roof, so we're set. =)

Fuming
Okay, being sick and angry isn't the best combination. Last night my cold got a little worse so Jakob braved the rain and stormy weather to get me some meds and some juice. He also brought me a treat: frosted animal cookies! He's vying for the Best Husband of the Year Award and so far, he's the top runner. =) Yummy frosted animal cookies. He knows that either those or a salty pretzel will work when I'm not feeling well. Peanut butter M&Ms and sour patch kids work too, but those are really a group party pick-me-up food.
Anyway, that is not what I'm smoldering about. So one of the organizations that Jakob and I volunteer with has a really crappy leader--in my opinion--and there have been some instances in the past little while that have proven to me that this person shouldn't be in the leadership position. Today, for instance, is one of them. We've been upfront with any of the information that we have and have collected information from other people regarding certain instances within this organization and its members. There has never been anything hidden from the "leader", yet this person claims that we have been withholding information and that we have been working behind their back. We haven't withheld anything and everything we've had has been told to this person every single time. No, it hasn't always been in writing, but perhaps that is my own fault for not following one of my own guidelines. I've been trying to keep my mouth shut on a few things, but as of right now I'm about ready to explode! We've haven't kept this person in the dark and we certainly haven't only been communicating with this person. Any time that something has happened, we have told someone along with this "leader". I'm smoldering right now with everything that I want to say, yet for the sake of the argument, I will let this person have their say in things, but come hell or high water, they will know exactly what my mind has come up with. We volunteer! We aren't getting paid! Yet this person is too soft and wants "the whole group to get along" when it is human nature that certain people just don't get along. I try. Really, I do try to get along with many different people. Being a teacher I have to. But I know that not everyone will get along and you separate or even remove the aggressor. And as of right now I am not the aggressor. I am not the one making life difficult for other people. Yes, we're all volunteers, but even volunteers can be asked to leave if things are not working out.
Arg. I'm just so sick of all of this. And having this on my mind while trying to teach and being physically sick isn't helping for me to get ahead or get better.
I agree with Bill Engvall in that "Stupid people should wear a sign saying 'I'm Stupid' then you would know not to rely on them".
Well, back to sniffling. *gross*

Sniffles
So my weekend didn't start out the way that I wanted it too. Friday night I wasn't feeling all that great, but I thought it was just all the stress and work from the week, so I went to bed a bit earlier. Saturday morning I woke up with very little voice and a very scratchy throat. I didn't really have anything other than that for most of the day, but it was a packed day. First I had to get up and finish the baby shower gifts that I had started on the day before but was too tired to finish them. Then I went to the baby shower. It was great to see Court and Andrea (who is having twins) and just relax for a bit. Then I went and watched the rest of the BYU vs Tulane slaughter. Way to go Cougars. Then in the evening Jakob and I went to a masquerade fundraiser for In Our Own Way charity. It was fun, but it would have been funner if we had a group of people to go with. I broke out the Christine gown (which I am trying to sell) and Jakob wore his Caviler costume. He received a lot of complements.

He did look great, don't you think?
We got back home really really late and I was so tired that I don't remember even going to bed.
Sunday morning is when this bug really hit me. I had no energy and I was sniffling and sneezing like nothing other. I felt a bit better in the afternoon when we went to my parents for dinner (yum!) but I again zonked out when I got home.
Now Monday morning is here, I have to be at work, and I'm sniffling and sneezing even more. I think on the way home I am going to stop by the pharmacy and pick up something for the symptoms. That way I can deal with everything and still work. I only have a few days worth of substitutes and I need to save those up for emergencies or when I have a conference that I need to go to.
But that brings me to a pet peeve of mine . . . sniffling. I really hate sniffling. The sound and the feeling. I have a few students who are constantly sniffling and it drives me up the wall! I've gone through almost a box of tissues over the weekend because I refuse to sniffle. It just grosses me out and I can't stand it.
Oh well. I guess I'm going to be red nosed for a while. At least until we figure out exactly what this bug is and how to get rid of it. I'm drinking fluids and washing my hands like crazy lately, but I think that I got this from one of my students. I've noticed that when I was in high school I got sick a lot. When I was in college, not so much because I wasn't constantly around the same people. Then when I went to do my student teaching, I got sick again. Now that I'm teaching and I'm in the high school once more, I am sick. I think it has come down to the point that I cannot be in the school system without getting sick.
Today it is supposed to rain and I can hear the thunder from in my office. I want to go outside. I miss listening to thunderstorms. For some odd reason they are really relaxing and comforting to me.

Interesting
So I totally didn't get what everyone was saying about today until I had someone tell me that today was 9-9-09 and that wouldn't happen for a while, so today was special. It took me so long to figure that one out that I felt spent after trying to figure it all out.
Oi.
