Standard sights at home

Yep, whenever anyone goes into the kitchen, these two end up following you in there thinking they are going to get a treat of some sort. We don't allow them up on the counters, but there are some small benches that we have because of the balcony seating and they will jump up on those. If we don't pull them out, they will crane their little necks around the edge to see what we're doing, otherwise if they are pulled out, they love to watch what we're cooking.

This is usually what Jimmy will do if he thinks he can sneak a little something:

(Ignore my voice. It's been changing pitches and cracking like nothing other for the past few weeks and it's driving me nuts! No, I have no control over it.)

Sadie will just sit there and look cute and meow or jump down and start rubbing against your leg if she wants a snack. Believe me, we do leave food for them all day and they do eat it, I think they just like to get a little treat now and again (who doesn't like a treat now and again). Sadie likes pasta, bread, cheese (any cheese), oatmeal, corn, oranges, condensed milk, and especially bacon. If you're eating it, she wants a piece and she knows how to get a piece too. The other day I had some slices of cheese I was eating. I had a piece in my hand and leaned over to grab my phone and Sadie jumped up on the couch, grabbed it from my hand and ran behind the ottoman to eat it. Yep, when that girl wants cheese, she'll do almost anything to get it.

Quick weekend

So I had PTCs last Thursday until late in the evening so I was so happy that I didn't have to go into work on Friday. I had a teacher's conference down in St. George fri-sat and Jakob decided to come with me. It was a good experience for both of us. There were a few of the sessions that really helped me with stuff, but others really didn't do much. I don't think it was that well planned out, so at the end when we had a chance to give some feedback I did give some plus some suggestions to help with the planning for next year.

It was nice to get away for the weekend, even if it was a rushed weekend. I did bring the camera, but totally forgot to pull it out. Friday started off with Jakob waking up really sick. Then we went to get the oil changed in his car and they found 2 other things wrong with it . . . $500 bucks to finish everything. Since his car was just a bit more "fixed" than mine, we decided to take it down. The drive down there wasn't that bad. There is just a whole lot of nothing on that stretch of road. There were some beautiful scenery places, but I was either driving or asleep. If I'm not driving and there is no one else in the car, I tend to fall asleep. On the way down we decided to try something new and get an audiobook to listen to. I'm not too sure what I feel about audiobooks, but I think it'll get some getting used to. We got Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Percy Jackson Book 1. The Alice in Wonderland/Alice Through the Looking Glass cds are the ones we got through. I had read the books a long time ago, but Jakob had never read them so he found them kind of wacky and strange. We kept thinking that Lewis Caroll was high on something when he was writing those considering how many strange changes and quick location changes there were without really explaining how you got there. I remember an old BBC collection (I think) of films that dealt with the two books.

On the way back I was driving. We left Saturday right after the conference ended and there wasn't any weather problems. We were fine until we hit Nephi, then it was WHITE OUT! I mean it was just there and then gone when we reached the edge of Nephi. Really odd and really hard to drive through in the dark when there aren't any lights on the side of the road to see by. But other than that, no problems to report.

One thing I do like about the teacher's conferences, is the so-called "Trade Show" that goes on. This one wasn't all that great, but I did get a few free textbook samples out of it. I was really surprised when the guy said I could take it and look at it. I took 3 text books that are big possibilities for me to use. I wanted to check out the other text book group that was there, but I ended up not having that much time. I did get the catalogs though and I can request a teacher's sample. Nice huh?

But it was nice to be able to spend a bit of time with Jakob. Friday night we went out to dinner--something we haven't done in a long time. Also, right before we left I got a half-dozen blood red roses from him for my birthday/valentines day. Yay! Although Jimmy had a really interesting reaction to the red carnations that were with the roses. He wanted to eat them! He kept biting at them and when I was gone one day he actually bit off a bud and tried to eat it. Odd cat.

Mike did some house sitting for us over the weekend and the cats really seemed to enjoy it! They followed him around and he played with them. It seems that they didn't have any separation anxiety (something I was kind of worried about) and it is good to know that they are okay with having him around since Jakob and I are going to try and go on more weekend outings. Jakob is going to have a show in the evenings until June, but we're going to try a few things and see if we can do it. Nothing elaborate, but something fun. I think we're even going to try and grab a few friends to come with us and try some new things.

Post for Court

Okay, so last night was such a blast! My friends came over and we had a great little get together. Lemonade (which apparently I spiked considering the mood everyone was in . . . and I didn't even make it as strong as I usually do), great homemade potato soup, sandwiches, chips, and great games. When we start going, it is always good times. We were also watching the Opening Ceremonies and I've got to say that I really enjoyed the technical aspect of everything. I'm thinking I may have my MultiMedia students watch that to see how performance art and thinking outside the box can work together. But when the malfunction happened at the end of the show, it made us think of weird videos and we started talking. I don't know why but these two came to mind.


Yes, it's Elmo, but it's funny. He gets a bunch of adults to sing the alphabet .
. . . . . and cookies are an all-time food. :p

But really, we had a blast yesterday. We're also all in the works with something that could be pretty cool and pretty big, but I'm not going to say anything right now just in case it doesn't pull through (but I think it's going to be great!).

Funny

So the other day Jimmy and Sadie were napping on the couch.



Yep, that is the way they were sleeping. They end up sleeping together every once in a while, but most the time it starts with them wrestling, then they clean each other and take a nap.

Plus, Mike came over the other day to help me with some stuff and he found my old electronic games and sat down on the couch.

Yeah, I have those two really big bears and when he sat down they looked like they were looking over his shoulder.

To burn off a treat . . .

So a friend of mine was taking a stroll through the web and found this little graphic that deals with how much exercise it would take to burn off certain treats.



Interesting huh? Makes you want to deal with that pesky stair-stepper machine more often.

So I'm Neurotic?

Apparently--according to this "new" study that has been done--those who are cat people tend to be more neurotic than dog people. Huh. Take a look at the video.

Uhhh, I don't see myself as neurotic. I think I'm just as outgoing as most. Yes, I tend to stay to myself and I don't feel like I need to talk constantly about my pets (although if you take a look at some of my recent blog posts you'd probably disagree with me). As far as my experience has been, I tend to be a cat person because dogs are just too much work for my current lifestyle. Cats aren't as demanding--at least mine aren't--and they tend to take care of themselves. Eh, I guess I'm defending my way of thinking.

Oh well. I still prefer my kitties to a dog.

Got Jimmer?

I heard this on the radio this morning. I didn't watch all the BYU basketball game last night (I was taking a nap) and then my mom called and said that there was a game on. We normally go to home games but I'm not feeling too well and my mom was working. TCU was an interesting opponent and had it close for a while in the end of the first and beginning of the second, but then Jimmer Fredette kind of took off in the second half. The team played well, but when I heard that phrase on the radio this morning, I had to chuckle.
