I adore the muppets, so I have to put on two videos this week. I can't decide on only one, so you get to enjoy two of them!

Our 4th of July Parade Pictures . . .
Yeah, I know, it's a little late, but I was waiting for more pictures to show up. I still haven't gotten all the pictures off. I didn't take these ones, but I'm going to post them anyway. So, as I said before our group does the pre-parade in Provo. It is quite interesting. This year we decided to do something different and not allow the parade goers to slow us down by asking us to stop and take pictures. It worked rather well. Normally we are the ones that slow down the parade because we just get hounded for pictures, or we lose people because they get caught up taking pictures. I think it worked and everyone was a bit better for it. It wasn't as much stop and go.
I didn't take these pictures (thanks to those who took the pictures!), since I really didn't want to drag my camera along the parade route this year. I wanted to focus on keeping the troopers healthy . . . well, as healthy as you can while walking in a helmet in high heat.
Me and my amazing "sister". (no, we're not really related, but everyone thinks we are. we act so much alike and we're really really good friends!)

Jakob and Steve. Those two have too much fun on a parade route. They actually look really good too . . apart from some really weird and wild hair!
I think Jakob is talking strategy.
Our great and amazing Vader. All of us were happy that it stayed relatively cool for those in helmets.
This little droid was fun, but I can't drive it! I'm not all that great with remote controls, plus I was pulling the cooler and the spotter bag. It was a hit with some people though.
Our group. See? I was there, just pulling the cooler (which came in really handy near the end of the route).

Monday's Weird News
I know, it's late, but it has been a kind of busy day. First, my car has officially died. I have no idea what is wrong with it. My dad and brother think it's one thing, but in order to figure out if it is that, then I have to tow the car to the nearest dealer and that isn't going to be good. So, the next few days should be interesting.
But anyway, back to the weird news. . . . . . . .
Not so bright thief. . . . . oops
Always look in your sandwich before eating . . . . . clickie
When spraying the house for bugs . . . . . . . right here
Instead of a pedicure . . . . . glup glup glup

Friday's Fun Viral Video
Great alliteration right? *rolls eyes* Yeah, I know, I'm weird. But I thought I'd put some fun video on every Friday . . . just because.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
My drug of choice. . . .
No, it isn't anything like that. My mom just made an observation while we were at the fabric store yesterday and that got me thinking. The store is having an amazing sale and I just can't resist a good sale, especially when it comes to fabric and notions (thanks mom, you're the best for teaching me these tricks!). Anywho, we were looking around--mind you, we've got two carts almost full of fabric--and my mom notices that I'm smiling and seem at ease and I'm actually enjoying myself. "You're on a high," she said to me. "Yeah," I replied, pulling out another bolt and putting it on my cart. "This is my drug of choice. I can't get high off the illegal stuff, so I'll do it legally." I said all this without breaking stride. My mom had to stifle a laugh, then had to lean over to breathe because she was laughing so hard. This other lady gave me the weirdest look and I just continued on "not that I'm a druggie or anything." Yeah, some weird stuff comes out of my mouth at times . . many times without me really thinking about it.
But in all realism, I really do get a kick out of going to look at fabrics. I really don't like shopping all that much, but when it comes to fabric, I can be in a store for a while looking at everything . . . especially if there is a good deal. Although the stores around here are the generic stores, it is fun to see what each little region likes. I visited a bunch of different Jo Ann stores and noticed that the merchandise that was on sale changed with each store. It was more like the amount that changed. In one store I found a bunch of gorgeous lacy fabric that I haven't seen in any of the other stores; probably because they've sold out of it. I also found some great deals on thick bridal satin, the stuff that is normally pretty pricey, but is amazing to use. Plus I found all the velvet that I need to use for some movie costumes and Jakob is happy because the fabric for his Halloween costume didn't cost as much as he was actually planning on.
All in all, I'm very happy with my finds. I normally don't spend as much as I did, but when I find deals like this, I might as well stock up.

And so it begins . . .
Mondays can sometimes be a real downer since most of the time you didn't accomplish everything you needed to on the weekend (because some stores are closed on sunday. . .stupid stores) or you just had a really busy weekend and didn't catch up on enough sleep, I've decided that I'm going to find some "News of the Weird" and post it every Monday. It may be news from around the world or it may be news that happened to me.
But getting on to other things, I'm happy that the weather has turned a bit cooler; and by a bit cooler I mean it isn't hovering near 100 anymore. We have chances of thunderstorms this entire week, so I'm excited! I love thunderstorms! If I get lucky, I might take my camera and go see if I can catch lightening pictures.
Jakob and I are "redoing" the apartment. It hasn't been all that bad, but I get a bit bored when I can't change things around. I don't do it often, but I like to make things look different every once in a while. I'm trying to see if the landlady will let me put up some pictures or at least repaint something--but that may come when I actually have time to pull everything out of the front room, put it in the other rooms or out on the lawn. We've tackled the front room and the kitchen, so now it's time for the three other rooms. It's actually quite fun when you find something you didn't know you had. Plus, we've realized how many books we have and what a tiny, puny bookshelf to put them all in. But that may change soon, yea!
My mom is doing track camp this week and it's been fun to listen to some of the stories that she's had so far--and they only started at 9 this morning. I may go take some pictures later; its fun to watch the teens respond to my mom's coaching. You get the ones who are really dedicated and listen and absorb what she has to say, and then you get those who think they can high jump, but can't even get off the ground. This should be fun.
But Jakob is excited to see his brother next week (he's coming down for cross country camp) and then the weekend after that, going up to Seattle to see his parents. He's never seen Seattle, so he's in for a real treat. As for me, I'm still on the prowl for another job. Prowl. . . . . prowl. . . . . prowl. . . . .

And Now the Real Thing
Did ya'll like that last post?
Melissa liked it enough to smack me a good one. I still have the welts to prove it. Gotta love a woman with a good sense of humor and a strong arm. . . or is that a strong sense of humor and a good arm? . . . oh well.
She's scratching my back right now, so she's forgiven.
Anyways, lest any of you readers get any ideas that I'm abandoning my wife to do a show, let it be known that I'm not doing anything she wouldn't be allowed to do. The thing is, I know she doesn't want to. She HATES even having her picture taken. I, on the other hand, can't seem to get enough attention at times. She is, however, AMAZING, at everything that can be considered behind-the-scenes. This is just one of those instances where one spouse is (GASP) different from the other. And what do we do about it? We embrace our differences, just like we do each other when we wanna cuddle. . .
And that concludes Lesson # 1 about marriage, which is entitled "Men and Women are Different" (incidentally all the other lessons have the same title).
Oh, and by the way, I haven't lost all the fights I've choreographed/been in. I once took out an old man and a 10 year old kid as one of the murderers in MacBeth. So Kids and Seniors better watch out.

Things, yet so much more
I am in the oddest mood today, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am actually thinking about what is coming up in the near future. My graduation and Jakob going back to school. Things have been kind of sticky lately because of school. It feels odd that I am actually finished with everything. It took me about 5 years, but I finished. I've never been one that has liked academia. I like learning, not being taught. I know that sounds odd, but let me see if I can explain. For me, there is a big difference between learning something and being taught something. I love learning about things and exploring and finding things out for myself. When I'm taught, it seems like I have to first listen, and then go out and learn. I know it might seem backwards, but I guess I just like skipping one step. Plus, I've never been one for taking tests. I can study and study and study and the minute I have the test on the desk in front of me, my mind doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I don't know if it is the pressure of the test or what, but I just can never seem to get my mind to work like that. I have no problem writing tests and if I had unlimited time or have the use of other material, then I'm a bit better. I guess I'm just happy that I don't have more schooling--at least for the present time.
I really don't mind working. In some cases I'd rather be working than going to a class. Now, to be fair, I have had some really enjoyable classes and that started me looking at somethings that I've never looked at before, but I prefer to work. I have no problem working. Maybe that will all change when I have to work full-time and if I can't find something that I like, but I try to find something that I like in what I do.
I, again, am a theatre widow. I knew what I was getting myself into when I married Jakob, but it seems like when I get a few moments with him when he's not in a show, he's off again doing another show. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that he is good at what he does and he enjoys it and that he's lost every fight that he has put on stage and screen (sorry hun, had to put that in *snicker*), but at least I get a few hours with him on the weekend. I've been told many times that I could get involved as well, but I tend to like to be behind the scenes--although depending on what is in front, I'll do it--and that normally doesn't happen for me. Oh well, at least the show only runs certain days until September.
But on the good side of things, I made it through the 4th of July without much of a scratch. Jakob was able to get another rapier to add to our collection and he was able to write a bit more on a script that he and I are working on. I was able to write a few more chapters and ideas in my book, had good exercise walking the 2+ miles of the parade, seeing a few friends which I hadn't seen in a long time, and hanging out with some good friends and having good conversations afterwards. I'll post some pictures from our little family get together later--if I can get them off my camera; I really need to find my card reader . . . . .

Pictures
So I've been slacking off . . . well, not completely slacking off just busy with other things. Jakob keeps telling me that I need to put up a few more pictures, but I have the hardest time with just getting them off my camera. It's not like film--which there are times that I prefer that--where you finish a roll and since you have no idea what the pictures are actually going to come out, you take it and get it developed. Digital, I've got a couple of 2gig and a 4gig memory cards, and I never am able to find my cord.
Anyway, I finally received some pictures from our Montana trip. We were at the Museum of the Rockies helping with their "Out of this World" Costume exhibit.
Jakob was having fun interacting with the crowd and I was trying to make sure that the trooper's backpack wouldn't knock over some unsuspecting kid.
I really need to learn not to slouch. This little kid could not stop staring up at the characters! It was hilarious.
These little girls had come dressed up once they heard on the local news and radio that we were there. I was sitting down for a breather and the two of the walked in and stopped in their tracks and just looked at me. I waved them over and the girl in black gave me a hug and then they wanted a picture. Too cute!
Everyone wanted a picture outside with the T-Rex after Jakob and I took ours. It was just too bright on the other side of the T-Rex, so I look like I'm winking!

Musings
So life has been kind of crazy lately. My "graduation" has been giving me the biggest pains! I thought I had finished everything and that the state had accepted it and that my teacher license would be renewed and everything would be fine. WRONG! Since I was finished with my classes in April, most people expected that I would graduate in April. I decided to keep my student status through the summer to make sure that I had a job, so I delayed my graduation until August; I didn't see a problem with it. But the state and the university saw a huge problem with it. So for the past few weeks I've been trying to juggle my schedule around to be able to go and figure things out. So finally I was able to figure everything out and now that seems to be on track.
We've been renting for the past year and I'm not a big fan of renting--but it has worked for us for a while now, so I can't complain too much--so we've been looking around for a house. The problem is that we are kind of in limbo right now. I don't have a job for the fall as of yet, and Jakob is still up in the air about his work/school/teaching schedule. With the rising gas prices, we may need to move closer to his work/school/teaching location, but that is what is throwing us for a loop. And it is just frustrating when it comes to searching for a house too. I will not live in anything dumpy and the neighborhood has to be a good neighborhood. Right now with what we can afford and what we qualify for, it seems that is all we can afford. It looks like we may be renting for a little while longer--unless something changes drastically. I just wish there was a way that you could build up your own equity while you were renting instead of someone else's.
But, we both are healthy and that is good. We're both working out--I need to lose a few pounds--and at least that is a hour or so that I get to spend with Jakob. My costuming is still moving ahead, but that is one of the reasons that I need to lose a bit of weight. I measured myself and set my dressform at my measurements and tried to put on of my costumes on the form, and it wasn't fitting. I tried the costume on and yep, it doesn't fit me, so back to the workouts I go. Since I had to take a break from dancing to let myself heal, I'm not getting as much constant exercise as I used to. I put on my clogging shoes and danced a bit. It took a little for my feet to get back in the grove of things, but it felt good to get back dancing. I need to figure out how I'm going to do it more, now that I'm not at BYU anymore.
I'm also trying to get things finalized for the parade on Friday. Since I can't fit in any of the finished costumes right now--plus I don't think I could walk 2 miles in some of those costumes--I'm just going to be spotting the group at the parade. We always get cheers and I am a bit disappointed that I'm not in costume, but at least I get 2 miles of walking in!
But, I'm happy and that is good sign, for me anyway.
