Squirrels in the BBQ

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Usually this weekend is full of candy and chocolate, but my family decided to try something different this year and try to make it a family tradition. Since we're all trying to be a bit healthier, my mom gave us a Easter basket filled with fruits, veggies, and bread.

Yep, complete with Thumper! Yummy huh?

Now, regarding the title of this post. No, we didn't BBQ some squirrels. We've been noticing for the past month or so this squirrel doing in and out the back of our BBQ. When we opened it up, we noticed that she was stuffing insulation in bits and pieces inside, trying to make a nest of sorts. Every time we found it, we threw it away, but she was persistent. My mom even put a piece of plastic bag over the opening in the back, but she ripped right through it. Yesterday when we went over there I decided to take a look to see if she was doing it again and yep, it was there and an even bigger mound. I told my mom and both of us went to look at it and the squirrel jumped out of the nest and ran down the deck railing. My mom decided to take a look inside the nest and there were 6 tiny new-born squirrels. Now we can't move or disturb the nest until they are out of there. My mom tied down the lid to the BBQ so it won't blow over and no one can lift it up for a while. I was worried that the mother squirrel wouldn't go back to the nest because my mom had touched it, but it looks like she went back. I'm going to check on it in a couple weeks or so and see how things are going. I am worried that when the little ones get out of the nest they may fall between the grates of the BBQ, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I wanted to take some pictures of the nest and the little ones, but my camera wasn't cooperating. Maybe in a bit.

What a crazy mama squirrel! You'll have to post pictures when you can get some--I've never seen a baby squirrel. I love the Easter basket, and Jared would too... he loves Thumper.

I've never seen a baby squirrel. The idea sounds so cute. And I think Thumper looks adorable in the basket!
