I had a good day Thursday

Ahh, it has been a long time since I've said that and actually meant it. Thursday was good. Work wasn't too crazy because there wasn't any testing going on and it was just the normal schedule. I was actually able to leave a bit early. When I got home I worked in my garden for a bit since it was nice outside, the bushes really needed a trim down and some weeds needed to be pulled. I've got a dandelion invasion happening on my lawn, but the lawn is a piece of garbage anyway, so I'm just trying to control it right now until I get a weekend that the Hubby can help me pull those suckers out.

But thats not why Thursday was good. After being discouraged that the tickets were "sold out" by the first day they were on sale, I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to see the show. But I was persistent. I kept checking and checking every week or so. I talked to the Hubby and got the dates that he was free and kept checking those days. Finally, on April 1st, I found them. Yes, they were in the back of the theatre, but it was still tickets to the so called "sold out" show. What show you ask?

Wicked. Yep. Sorry about the crappiness of the picture. I didn't take my camera with my (stupid me!) to the theatre, so I had to get this at home. I took the Hubby to go see Wicked. I'd seen it before, and I thought this was something that he would enjoy and he seemed to. Yes, we were all the way in the back of the Capital Theatre so he couldn't see what was going on with the Dragon during the show, but at least he was able to see it. The lighting was spectacular, especially for a touring show. Usually when you see a touring show, the lighting is a bit sub-par because they don't always know what they will be getting with each theatre so they tone down the design and all the elements. The costumes were still as grandeur as usual, I had an itch again to make the Elphaba Act II dress (after doing some research, that gown may take a while to complete). Some of the Emerald City resident's costumes would be fun to do. When you see them at school, the uniform for the school is pretty easy (stripes) and then the OzDust Ballroom gowns take the uniform a step up. The tour ensemble we saw included Donna Vivino as Elphaba, Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda, Myra Lucretia Taylor as Madame Morrible, and Lenny Wolpe as The Wizard. Click on the link if you'd like to see the full cast we saw. The one thing I didn't agree with when it came to this casting was that Glinda was taller than Elphaba. This Elphaba was a bit shorter and stockier than Glinda, but it worked because they were close to each others height. The actress playing Glinda in this one was really over the top; closer to what Kristen Chenoweth did with the original Glinda, but took it a bit farther. There was actually a moment (right before the song Popular) that the actress actually cracked up the girl playing Elphaba. They kept going, but you could see that they needed a moment to compose themselves. All in all, it was great. I was happy to see it again and I am excited to hear that the tour director wants to bring it back to Utah soon. They had such a good welcome and run here and they didn't expect it. They enjoyed the theatre and the audiences. If they do come back, I'm going to see if I can preorder my tickets to make sure that we can see the full stage this time.

The other thing that make Thursday good was to see the Jazz win a game. Yes, they lost again on Saturday, but Thursday was good. It was down to the wire. We listened on the radio to the 4th quarter as we were driving back from the theatre. It was exciting. I'm sad that Hot Rod Hundley, the voice of the Jazz--the one I grew up listening to--is going to retire. His voice has always been the one that I listened to when we would use the radio instead of the TV to catch the Jazz games. I guess that is one of my memories is listening to Jazz games with my dad. Even watching Jazz games with him is entertaining. But he is really knowledgeable of the game, so is my mom, so when I have a question I can get a great answer quickly . . . although sometimes I have to wait until a timeout or a commercial to be able to ask it and get an answer.

Anywho, on to a new week.

As the whole hassle of my tickets for a group is starting to pan out (I'll probably post about that in the future), it looks like I may be getting to see Wicked again when it comes through here. But no definites on that. Glad you got to see it again. And I'm excited for Philip and Micaela to see it, too!
