The day after the show

Jakob show is finally done (yay!) and it wasn't as bad as anticipated. I don't have any video or pictures to show for it but it was fun. Jakob really creeped out a few people with his Gollum but made them laugh at the same time. I was able to see it twice: once with Jakob's sister and his niece and the other time with Court and my family. The day that I saw it with my sister-in-law, the audience had a few more young women in it and they were completely enthralled with the story. They jumped when Gollum and the spider came out; and were pretty vocal about it too. The goblins were hilarious!

The one thing I didn't like too much was that not all the puppeteers got into their roles. The girl playing Bilbo really got into the fact that it wasn't her acting, it was the Bilbo Puppet and with everything that was said, the puppet acted like it was the one that said it. Same thing with Jakob and the few puppets he did. But put that in contrast with the other puppeteers, it still seemed that those people didn't get into their roles. It didn't seem like the Thoran puppet especially was there. Most of the time his head was just hanging low and his hands didn't move with the speech. Sad really. Took away from the magic. I now understand where that review was coming from (check out my last Hobbit post if you don't know what I'm talking about). Jakob really made the characters come to life. Yeah, the writing wasn't all that great, but it was still fun and since it is aimed at kids (mostly) I can understand that.

But now that is over with. All the costume pieces are back. And Jakob is on to his next show: The Taming of the Shrew. This one isn't as close as the last one (Hobbit was in town, Taming is in Draper) and the rehearsals are a bit wonky (who starts rehearsal at 3pm on Saturday!) but at least he's working.

I really wish I had seen it. We had to leave the first 5 minutes because of Darcy. *GRRRRR* She was seriously freaked out. Sigh.
