Masquerade, hide your face so the world will never find you. . . .

Yep, some friends, Jakob, and I went to a masquerade last night. Well, as close as people in Utah seem to get to a masquerade. I guess I'm used to what I've seen with other masquerades and what masquerades really are meant to be. Steve dressed as the Phantom in the red tux (the one from the masquerade scene in the movie) and I attempted to make a Christine masquerade dress . . . yes the pink one. And for those of you who don't know, I'm not a big fan of pink; in fact I'm not a fan. I just don't like the color. I don't think it works well with my skin tone since I'm already on the paler side of things (genetics, got to love it). Jakob went with a 18th or 19th century style costume complete with dueling cape (just in case he had to defend Aleida or my honor), Aleida had a really pretty red and black dress styled after Anna's dress in Van Helsing. It was entertaining to see people's reactions as we walked around. Heads would turn as we walked past some people. At one point the DJ (yes, they had a DJ, ugg) started playing a short version of "Masquerade" from the moive and Steve and I just happened to be standing by each other. Aleida leaned over and said that there were cameras pointing towards us. We joked around that if they played the soundtrack a little farther, Steve would had have to come down the stairs and do the whole Phantom bit. But then again, I didn't have the gold chain with the ring around my neck, so that wouldn't have worked out too well.

That movie hasn't left the DVD player for the past week or so, since I found out about the masquerade. I was just planning on wearing one of the other gowns that I had, but Jakob made the suggestion that I should try to make the Christine gown. I had attempted it earlier last year, and it didn't turn out all that great (my dress form wasn't working with me, so it is too big) so I dragged my heels until I had to make a decision and went for it. I even did it in the pink. It wasn't completely done for the masquerade; my "tail" was just pinned on and the flowers were all hot glued on (and amazingly it stayed on). I didn't have my oval hoopskirt either so I had to make due with a very full petticoat. It did the trick, but I need an even fuller one so it sits correctly. The reason I wanted my oval one is it is shaped more like a teardrop, so it is round in the front, but elongates in the back a bit to keep my tail from slipping under the dress or from going flat. With the petticoat that I used, it kept falling flat; but that could have been because of the pins holding the tail on. Now that I'm not in a rush, I'll be redoing the tail and actually putting the flowers on correctly. I'm up in the air about if I'm going to keep it or sell it. It was made for my dimensions, so there would have to be another person out there with my dimensions in order for the gown to work. But we'll see what ends up happening.

But after seeing what they pulled off with the masquerade, I think I can organize something a bit more, fullfilling, I guess is the wording I would use. I'm going to see what it all takes to do something like that and see if it is possible. Things like this need to happen more, to get people out and doing something else. The masquerade was to benefit the iCare Community charity (kind of like a food bank and community services put together). So all the proceeds went to them.

We'll see what I can pull off. For the mean time, I'll post the few pictures that I took once I get them off my camera.

Now that song is stuck in my head.

That sounds really cool! Sounds like you had muey much fun as well. You are quite talented in the dress-making/costume department, my friend!

And I heartily agree with your anti pink statement :D
