Starting something

It's a new year. 2011 is now here.

Most people look at the new year and make a resolution to do something different. I've never really been one that makes resolutions, but this year I'm going to join in on the bandwagon and try something different. I'm making plans to start my own business. I've got almost everything I need in order and I'm waiting on a few more things to fall into place; however I'm more than half way there. I don't want to announce anything yet in case things just doing pan out, but I think it will. I'm also starting some stuff with my mom. Hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures soon and post the here so you can see what we're doing.

I'm also resolving to get another job this year. I can't take instructing at the elementary school much longer. This just isn't my age group, or my subject matter. Yes, I think I'm fooling everyone into thinking that this is what I do or what I want to be doing, but it is getting ridiculous. I'm hoping that a position opens up soon in my field or other things take off and I don't have to deal with these people anymore.

However, in other news, Jakob started his student teaching today. Technically he doesn't have to start until Wednesday, but he wanted to start right away so he could have some room near the end of the semester in case he can't make it certain days to the school. He is at a Junior High and from his meeting with his cooperating teacher, it seems like there will be enough stuff for him to do an get a good experience with it. I think things will end up moving along rather well for him, and I'm excited about it. There was a whole lot of drama going on with getting him into this position, but at least he has a spot that doesn't demand he travel extensive distances the way they originally wanted him to.

Me, I'm still at the elementary school and dreading the fact that today was the first day back. The students, for the most part, are behaving, but I have the "older" kids this afternoon and they always make it "interesting"--to say the least. However, I look forward to when the final bell rings and I can go home to my holiday presents: a light box and sketch stuff. I have been wanting a light box for a while and my dad was going to make me one but couldn't find all the parts to finish it (after I bought them all) so he decided to gift me one. I'm happy! And my mom bought me some more sketch books and pencils (which I run through quite frequently because I practice so much). I'm really not all that great at sketching, so I do a lot of tracing and using my "drafting" skills, so at times my people turn out looking very blocky, but my writing is readable. There is the plus side to that.
